Medusa vs Medusa II from NextGen Gaming – Who Wins?

Should you ever meet the fabled Medusa, do not meet her gaze… for this is sure to turn you to stone. That’s the theory, anyway, but since this character doesn’t exist, we should be safe to play these two titles without shutting our eyes to do it.

But is the original Medusa slot game from NextGen Gaming better than the sequel, which is simply called Medusa II? Here’s our verdict.

Medusa

The original, but is it the best? It brings with it three bonus features, and works on a five-reel, 25-line format. Medusa is wild, as you might have expected, and if three appear, one of the three center reels turns to stone. It then transforms into an expanding wild which stays where it is while you enjoy three re-spins.

There are free spins, too. Three Medusa logos unlock 10 free spins, with all prizes doubled. You can also get as many as four Super Spins whenever a soldier appears on the center reel. These spins occur once the regular ones have ended. Prizes in these spins are multiplied by five!

Finally, the Pegasus feature is a simple click-me feature to bring you a nice win or two.

Medusa II – the sequel

Here’s the sequel, then, which works on five reels, but you get 243 ways to win here, instead. Lockable reels are in force here, with anywhere from two to five spinning together in every spin.

There is also a Locked Reels feature that awards 10 free games, and a further five free games might be won, too. The main game also has a Turned to Stone Stacked Wilds element to it, which means a brave soldier, aiming to kill Medusa, is turned to stone by her instead. This is good for you, though, because you receive a whole stack of wilds whenever this happens.

Our opinion: Which game is best?

It’s hard to choose… but if we had to, which we do, we would probably choose the first one. They’re both good, but there is something about the first one that gives it an edge. It could be all those great bonus features. Would you agree?

NextGen Gaming has done a superb job with both slots though, and we now wonder whether they will go for the triple and release yet another Medusa slot to complete a trilogy. Wouldn’t that be great?
